This Singer Nine Le Mans spent the first three years of its life with the Kent County Constabulary in their Maidstone headquarters. In 1940, it moved into private ownership and spent much of the period up until the late Sixties in Southern England.  We understand that in the late 1980s, it was restored with a new ash frame, but most original panels were retained. We presume it was returned to its original black livery in this period. The weather equipment and upholstery was renewed in the early 1990s. Specialist work was carried out on the engine in 2005, which included the fitting of a good replacement crankshaft, overhauling, regrinding the journals, cleaning and checking the oil ways, plus applying white metal to the connecting rods and main bearings, fitting four +040 pistons, cleaning the engine block and machining the top surface and flywheel, fitting a new ring gear and after reassembly, adjusting the end float on the front main bearing. New wire wheels appear to have been fitted in 2010 and a new clutch in 2019.

In 2021, ownership of the Singer passed to motoring historian and journalist Nick Baldwin for his 75th birthday. Nick’s parents tested a 9 Le Mans for The Motor and this was the inspiration for the purchase. We are handling the sale of DKT 623 as Nick very sadly passed away in January of this year.

We understand that in recent years, the sporting car has been used for club events and not much more. It has obviously been cared for and maintained well. In terms of its condition now, the body, paint and underside are all in excellent condition. We understand that the engine and mechanics are in excellent order, as one would expect.

Supplied with Singer is a jack, copper hammer, starting handle and the twin spare wheels, plus a history file containing operation instructions, a reprint instruction book, a photocopy article on the Kent Constabulary Le Mans fleet, build diagrams and maintenance information, 14 copies of the Singer Owner with some handwritten notes, lots of correspondence, invoices, MOT test certificates dating from 1992 (plus a photocopy MOT from 1966), photographs including from the 1960s, the original RF60 registration book and continuation log books to 1967, a V5 document and the V5C registration certificate.
