This MG C, body number 338, came off the production line on the 15th January 1968 and was dispatched to University Motors in London. We understand the factory fitted extras were overdrive, wire wheels, heater, Dunlop SP Radial tyres and a folding hood. The original registration VWJ 900F was issued in Sheffield and the sporting car remained in the north of England until ownership passed the current custodian in 2002. We understand that a major restoration was undertaken in 1989 for almost £10000, and then more work was carried out in2000 for £3400 after a period of storage.

Numerous invoices for work, parts and servicing contained within the history file show that the current owner has maintained the C consistently. The sports car has been used sparingly in the last twenty four years; the odometer reading of 100580 miles is thought to be accurate, based on the 2000 MOT test at 91945 miles. A new wiring loom was installed in 2012 and the radiator was replaced in the same period. In 2014, the headlights were upgraded to halogen and the following year, SPAX adjustable rear shock absorbers and parabolic rear springs were fitted. Electronic ignition was installed in 2018 and the carburettors were rebuilt in the same year. New batteries were fitted in November 2023. In February of this year, work to the engine was carried out at a cost of over £2000 and included the removal of the engine and gearbox, a gasket and seal replacement, a clutch replacement, renewal of hoses, the cleaning of the bell housing and sump and an engine degrease. The braking system has also recently been overhauled and the water pump and steering rack renewed.

The body and panel work now are presentable.  We are told that the floor and chassis are in solid condition. The interior is tidy and instrumentation is thought to be in working order. The hood is good with no splits and the tonneau is a replacement several years ago, also in good order. Mechanically, the car performs well and after regular maintenance and so few miles covered in recent years, there are no known faults, although we understand that the overdrive does not work currently. The MG has a current MOT expiring in September 2025.

The history file contains a body service parts list, a modern workshop manual, a restoration manual, ownership history, a BMIHT certificate, a handbook, two technical information booklets, an original sales brochure, a Bonhams catalogue from 2000, MOT test certificates dating from 2000 plus corresponding tax discs from 2002, invoices dating from 1989, DVLA correspondence with copy registration document history and the V5C registration certificate.
