1963 Wolseley 1500 Mk III

1957 saw the arrival of the Wolseley 1500 and its twin the Riley One-Point-Five. Utilising the Morris Minor floorpan, suspension and steering, the BMC B-Series 1489cc engine and the MG Magnette gearbox, the siblings were directly aimed at middle-class Britain and boasted all the refinements expected in that era. A top speed of 76.7mph was achieved by a Wolseley 1500 when tested by ‘The Motor’ in 1957. The Mk II version of both arrived in 1960 with some minimal cosmetic improvements, and changes to the rear lights and grille were the features of the Mk III, launched following year.

Purchased by the current custodian in 2013, this exceptional 1500 Mk III was restored in the same year at a cost in the region of £12,000. It has been cherished by its Wolseley Register owner ever since and maintained regularly to a high standard. The interior and red leather upholstery are in fine condition and possibly better than when the car left the factory.  The headlining and tyres have been replaced, and we are told that the engine has been overhauled and a replacement unleaded cylinder head and clutch have both been fitted. After checking the braking system, we understand that most components were replaced. The Wolseley is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system and stainless steel rimbellishers are a smart finishing touch. The replacement front wing panels are the GRP variety, due to the fact that steel panels are now unobtainable.

The large history file supplied with the Wolseley contains numerous invoices, MOT test certificates, images of the restoration and a factory workshop manual, together with an exterior fitting steel sun visor painted in matching maroon body colour. A superb British classic.
