1960 Triumph TR3A

The original two-seat, open tourer TR3 first went into production in October 1955. From 1956, front brakes were changed from drums to discs, the first British production sports car to do so. In 1957 the TR3 was updated with some cosmetic changes, including a full width radiator grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot and a complete tool kit. With these somewhat minor changes the TR3 unofficially became the TR3A and finally ceased production in 1962, ultimately becoming the third highest selling TR after the 6 and the 7.

Imagine walking into a Triumph dealership in 1960 and ordering a new TR3A in Sherwood Green with a red interior and wire wheels…. This is in effect the scenario we have here; a virtually new TR3A which has been meticulously and professionally restored using rebuilt or new parts and has had a total bare metal, body-off respray, new seats and trim, weather equipment, tonneau cover, a stainless steel exhaust system and importantly, a new wiring loom.

Described as excellent virtually throughout, the TR was imported from America and converted to right-hand drive using all new components (we understand that the steering and suspension parts were powder coated also).

Since the recent restoration, completed earlier this year, the Triumph has covered just fifty miles and to quote the vendor: “whoever gets this will get a jolly good car!”
