The phenomenally successful Spitfire roared onto the motoring scene in 1962. It was Triumph’s challenger to other sports cars of the era, such as the Austin-Healey Sprite, and was designed by the renowned Italian designer Michelotti, who based the model on the chassis, engine, and running gear of the Herald saloon. The Spitfire has always been widely regarded as an economical starter classic, often favoured over its contemporaries for its light and easy handling and for its reasonably priced and easily obtainable spare parts.
This example has been recommissioned to MOT test standard after a long period of dry storage. With a hardtop supplied, we are informed that the hood has recently been replaced, as have the Radial Ply tyres. The vendor tells us that although further work could be carried out to improve the Spitfire generally, such as attention to the bodywork and possibly the engine (which sounds ‘harsh’ at present), the sports car appears to be sound and solid and should prove to be a worthwhile and enjoyable project.
The history file contains amongst others the V5C registration certificate, a list of parts replaced and invoices.
supplied with full weather equipment, including side screens, together with the aforementioned photograph folder, the RF60 registration book, the V5C registration certificate and others.
