The phenomenally successful Spitfire roared onto the motoring scene in 1962. It was Triumph’s challenger to other sports cars of the era, such as the Austin-Healey Sprite, and was designed by the renowned Italian designer Michelotti, who based the model on the chassis, engine, and running gear of the Herald saloon. The Spitfire has always been widely regarded as an economical starter classic, often favoured over its contemporaries for its light and easy handling and for its reasonably priced and easily obtainable spare parts.
Entered into our September sale by a renowned local Triumph enthusiast who has decided that three are just too many, this Spitfire was purchased in May of last year as a project. However, on closer inspection, it became clear that the Spitfire was basically up-together; the motor car had been the subject of a respray at some point and the body and paintwork are still described as being good today. The hood is a replacement, a tonneau cover is supplied, the carpets are recent additions and a modern MP3 player is installed in place of the usual radio. The mechanics of the Spitfire are described as being mostly good too; recent new replacements include: the clutch assembly (with new master and slave cylinders), the heater valve, battery, distributor and four tyres.
Representing excellent value for money and perfect as a late summer runabout, the Triumph is supplied with its V5C registration certificate, invoices and some MOT test certificates.
PLEASE NOTE: The speedometer is now not working.
