1934 Standard 10/12 Speed Saloon

Arriving in the mid-Thirties, the 10/12 ‘Speed’ was Standard’s break-away model, offering drivers all the luxury, sturdiness and space of a saloon, but with added oomph. The advertising campaign promised ‘abundant, breathless speed’, stating that the little saloon was capable of reaching 70mph, and 0 – 50mph in sixteen seconds, but could maintain an average speed of 40mph over long distances with ‘nonchalant ease’! The 12hp engine was inherited from the Standard ‘12’, but had buoyant mounting’ and was equipped with an aluminium head and two Solex carburettors with a special manifold (capable of producing 43hp at 4000rpm). Cosmetically, the ‘Speed’ model was similar to the ‘10’ De Luxe, but with Millenite ribbed brake drums, sun visors, a screen ‘spray’ system, an extra ashtray and three special colour schemes: Peacock Blue and Lavender Grey, green and Primrose, and a smart black and ivory.

Finished in its original colour scheme, this very rare and presentable example has been in the care of a Standard enthusiast for some years, but is now on the market only due to a change in circumstances. Cosmetically, the upholstery is in good order, but should the new custodian wish, the 10/12 may benefit from some fettling; equally, the motor car is charming in its current condition and is, we understand, in good running order.

A large history file offered with the Standard includes records of owners, invoices, images, old road tax discs, MOT test certificates, handbooks, a copy parts list, a lubrication chart, road test copies, the V5C registration certificate and the old V5.
