1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I

In 1965, Rolls-Royce introduced an entirely new design with unitary construction, self-levelling independent suspension and servo assisted brakes with three separate circuits. Power was provided by a V8 engine of 6230cc, driving through a GM three speed automatic gearbox. Progress was swift for such a large car and the smoothness was exceptional. Today, these prestige vehicles offer exceptionally good value for money.

This fine Silver Shadow I is possibly the best example on the market, equipped with sensible upgrades including halogen headlamps, radial ply tyres and a Harvey Bailey handling kit. It was previously owned by the late Timothy Stone, both a good friend of DVCA and a Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiast, who lavished over £20000 on the motor car to bring it up to show condition. In 2007, DVCA sold the Shadow to an equally fastidious gentleman who has continued with the high standard of maintenance. Recent work, carried out by Silver Lady Services, has included a carburettor overhaul and modification (it is now fitted with an overheat reduction kit), together with the fitting of new front shock absorbers and a water pump. The front bumper centre section has also been rechromed.

The vendor informs us that BAM 91H is the finest handling Shadow he has ever driven, and mechanically, there are no known faults. A Kenwood radio cassette player is installed, with a CD multi-changer fitted in the boot compartment. The ‘Sundym’ glass was a factory fitted option.

The vast history file that accompanies the car confirms that the Shadow I was supplied new to Jack Barclay Ltd of London W1 at a cost of £7841. The file also contains amongst others a copy of the works History Book, specifications, check lists and reports, as well as numerous MOT test certificates, invoices, copies of past registration books, the original handbook, the V5C registration certificate and a hand-written record of maintenance and repair from 20^th June 1992 until the present day.
