BMC produced the sporting Riley 1.5 and its sibling, the Wolseley 1500, from 1957 until 1965. They were built using the Minor floorpan, the MG Magnette gearbox and the BMC B-Series engine, but the Riley also benefitted from twin SU carburettors and an improved cylinder head which gave the model more oomph of 68hp.
This very original Series III example has had just five owners from new and its odometer reading of just 50350 miles is understood to be correct. We are informed that the Riley was first registered in Devon. In April 1975, it had covered only 28650 miles and was clearly used spasmodically until it was put into storage in May 1987 at 46761 miles. 781 UYN returned to the road in 2002 after recommissioning and the current custodian purchased it in 2018 with an odometer reading of 49357; just 2600 miles were covered by the little car in twenty nine years.
Finished in Birch Grey, the paintwork appears to be original apart from the left hand front door which has been refinished at some point. The chrome moulding requires replacement. The upholstery is in good order, as are the carpets (with their original over mats) and the wood fascia dashboard.
Mechanically, the Riley is described as good in most departments. Recent maintenance has included the fitting of a new battery, and we have observed that the radiator has been re-cored. Sensibly, for safety the motor car is equipped with period-style front seat belts.
The history file includes the V5C registration certificate, a quantity of MOT test certificates, numerous invoices, the driver's handbook and others.
