1938 Packard Super Eight Touring Limousine

Founded in Ohio by two brothers, James and William Packard, together with their partner George Weiss, the first single cylinder horseless carriage Packard appeared in 1899. With further investment, the company moved production to Detroit, Michigan, and became synonymous with the manufacture of high-class, innovative touring sedans, together with convertibles, limousines and even commercial trucks. Packard managed to survive the Great Depression by, surprisingly, continuing to produce expensive sedans on the single production line, as well as branching out into the lower end of the motor car market in the mid-1930s.

We are informed that this magnificent right-hand drive Packard is a ‘fifteenth series’ Super Eight, with room enough for four to five passengers to travel in comfort. For the last eleven or so years, the impressive Limousine has formed part of a wedding fleet; we believe it has also starred in television programmes and in film. The motor car has been properly maintained by an in-house mechanic, and has proved to be reliable and easy to drive, providing effortless cruising and plenty of torque from the four litre engine. The upholstery is described as original and in good condition, with leather front seats and cloth to the rear. Cosmetically, some areas of the paintwork could be improved and the cracked left-hand rear door glass will require replacement, but neither of these issues should present any major problems.
