1966 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller

Everyone knows we love a Minor Traveller here at DVCA. With the brilliant Morris Minor Owner’s Club for support, easily accessible and reasonably priced new and used spare parts, economical fuel consumption and plenty of space for the family or dogs, the Traveller truly is the perfect classic for the 21^st Century enthusiast.  As the vendor of this example said to us, it’s the ‘ultimate in recycling’, and perhaps the most eco-conscious choice you can make if you’re looking for a practical, reliable retro runabout for daily use.

DFE 386D was purchased by its owner twelve years ago as a project, and he is parting with his Traveller now only because he has too many other projects that require his attention. The motor car is an interesting prospect for a classic enthusiast as it has been upgraded to be driven comfortably in modern traffic and therefore could easily be used as a daily vehicle. The vendor has swapped the original engine with a refurbished MG 1275cc unit and a Ford Type 9 five speed gearbox. The carburettor is an SU HIF44 with an electronic distributor.  The radiator is new, as is the water pump and the electric cooling fan. The shock absorbers are reconditioned and a SPAX telescopic damper kit has been fitted. The braking system benefits from front EMS disc brakes and a servo and the Morris sits on new 4.5 inch wide wheels with new 165/70/14 tyres. The exhaust is four branch stainless steel and the motor car has been rewired with a CBS fuse and relay module. The steering is standard, but with the addition of a Jaguar steering column and there are stalk controls for the wipers, windscreen washer, indicators and hazard lights. All instrumentation is functioning and the driver benefits from the addition of oil pressure, RPM, VOCT and temperature gauges.

The bodywork and other panelling are described as being good for their age. The bonnet has been repainted in current ownership, the rest of the paintwork is adequate and serviceable. There are two small areas of rot in the woodwork that may need attention in the future, but they have plenty of varnish on so should last a good while yet. The original interior is clean, not perfect, but very usable and again we would say it is good for its age. While the appearance of the Minor isn’t concours, we feel that it is in usable, fit-for-purpose condition and benefits of course from all the mechanical upgrading as detailed above.

The Traveller is supplied with seven Morris Minor manuals (including BL, Pearson’s and Haynes) and a useful manual assembled by the vendor detailing wiring and other information specific to DFE 386D, together with an extensive history file containing the V5C registration certificate, the current MOT test certificate plus past certificates and MOT history, many invoices from the current ownership, MMOC information, and DVLA correspondence including details of former keepers.
