From 1956 until 1971, the Morris Minor was produced in large numbers both in saloon, convertible, estate car and commercially as a van or pickup truck. With simple mechanics comprising a four cylinder engine and a four speed gearbox, maintenance was easy and petrol consumption at around 40 mpg meant this was indeed a cheap car to run.
This dependable Minor Two Door Saloon, with its Dorset registration number, was supplied new by Channon & Sons Ltd. of Dorchester (see lot 266). The first owner was a Mr G Mason, also of Dorchester, who used the Morris for short journeys, including six mile visits to his daughter for Sunday lunch. Mr Mason passed away in the late 1980s, and the motor car went into hibernation until earlier this year, when a recommissioning programme commenced. The mechanics have been serviced and checked, the braking system has been overhauled with the fitting of new copper pipes and wheel cylinders. The Minor is equipped with a new water pump and hoses, new seat belts and a new fuel tank sender unit. We are assured that the underside and floor panels are original and solid, having never been welded. Although the upholstery is in good condition, after such a long period of storage, the motor car would benefit from some cosmetic enhancement. With just three owners (two being from the same family), this will be a worthwhile project for the Minor enthusiast.
The file contains the V5C registration certificate, the original ‘Passport to Service’ and two MOT test certificates.
