The Morris Minor Traveller was first introduced in 1952. The estate design featured ash wood framing on its rear exterior which was varnished, giving its distinctive and unique appearance. With simple mechanics comprising a four cylinder engine and a four speed gearbox, maintenance was easy and petrol consumption at around 40 mpg meant this was indeed a cheap car to run. The practical motor car’s two decades of production finally ended in 1972 when the Minor was replaced with the Morris Marina.
A programme of sympathetic restoration followed the purchase of this Traveller by the vendor’s father in 2006. At that point, the woodwork was relatively sound and solid and remains so, but would now benefit from re-varnishing. During the restoration, all glass and body panels were removed. The bodyshell was checked for corrosion and repaired as required. Body panels were repaired or renewed as necessary. The engine bay was stripped and a complete respray was carried out. The underside was treated with Waxoyl and a lead-free exchange engine and new clutch were fitted. These works were carried out at a cost of some £15000 in 2007, at a mileage of 63246. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the Morris was then stored after completion and many of the invoices for work carried out mislaid. The charming Minor now has a new MOT test certificate and is ready to return to the road.
The history file includes MOT test certificates, sundry paperwork and the V5C registration document.
