1934 Morris 8 Series I Deluxe Saloon

Launched to compete with Ford’s Model ‘Y’ and the similar Austin 7, the Morris Eight became one of Britain’s most successful pre-war cars, offering sturdy and reliable family transport. The model was offered as a saloon, tourer or van and powered by a UB Series 918cc side valve engine. The Series 1 was officially named in 1935, but production of the model began in the autumn of 1934 and these examples are often referred to as ‘Pre-Series’ Eights. The ‘baby’ Morris is now fairly rare but easy to maintain, with a good spares back-up. The Morris Register offers owners of pre-1940 Morris cars support and valuable information on all aspects of maintaining and running the pre-war motor cars.

This Series I was manufactured in October 1934 and first registered in Bournemouth in March 1935. The motor car is supplied with most of its documented history dating from 1947; interestingly, it was previously owned by the president of the Morris Register. We are informed that the Eight is in good running order, but the starter motor does occasionally fail to engage. It is described as in very good overall condition, with a smart body that was resprayed approximately thirty years ago, but may now require some tidying. The sunroof is in good working order. The vendor tells us that the interior is very smart, having been reupholstered in the past, the headlining is original and the carpets have been renewed. We are informed that the mechanical aspect is also good, and the Morris is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system.

This very usable pre-war family motor car is offered with a large history file which contains invoices, correspondence, the V5C registration certificate and the RF60 registration book.

A number of spare parts are supplied, including unused running board rubbers.
