From 1956 until 1971, the Morris Minor 1000 has been produced in large numbers both in saloon, convertible, estate car and commercially as a van or pickup truck. With simple mechanics comprising a four cylinder engine and a four speed gearbox, maintenance was easy and petrol consumption at around 40 mpg meant this was indeed a cheap car to run. And fabulous to own, of course; especially the ‘convertible’, which offered all the practicality of its siblings, but with an essential fun factor which few of its rivals could offer with such aplomb.
This original factory-manufactured Convertible was supplied new to its first owner by Guys Automobiles of Marnhull, who obtained the Minor from Sticklands of Gillingham, the North Dorset distributors of Morris, MG and Wolseley. It is understood that the Convertible has always remained in Dorset; the previous owner purchased the motor car in 2000 and set about a light restoration that included a respray to the current colour, as well as renewing the interior, upholstery, carpets and hood, which all remain in good order. At this time, the Minor was also upgraded with flashing indicators and 165R 14 845 tyres.
Twelve years ago, ownership passed to the current custodian, who has enjoyed the Convertible during the summer months; however, with a menagerie to care for and many claims for her attention, the time has come for her to reluctantly part with the beloved motor car.
Recent work has included a service and brake overhaul, together with the fitting of a new battery and replacement rear floor panels, and welding repairs to the centre cross member, jacking points and inner wheel arches.
PPR 418 is supplied with numerous MOT test certificates, recent invoices totalling £1310, the V5 document and the V5C registration certificate.
