1954 MG TF 1500

The MG TF Midget was launched in October 1953 as a facelifted TD, using the more powerful TDMK2, EXPAG engine of 1250cc.

In 1954 the engine capacity was increased to 1466 cc and compression raised to give 63bhp at 5000rpm. This was designated the TF 1500. The headlights were flared into the wings and the sloping grille concealed a separate radiator with a new pressurised cooling system. Stronger valve springs, larger valves and bigger carburettors aided the increased performance.  TFs were produced until April 1955, when they were replaced by the more modern styled MGA.

VFF 904 received an extensive, quality restoration in the 1980s and was part of a  small private collection, until purchased by the current lady owner. The metallic green paintwork is generally good apart from some small blisters at the base of the driver’s door. The chromed wire wheels are good, as is the rest of the chrome fittings. The interior is trimmed in beige leather and is in good order. There is a smaller diameter steering wheel currently fitted but the original wheel is included. The central dashboard has the octagonal instruments with generous glove boxes each side. Mechanically we are told all is well and more relaxed cruising is afforded from the fitting of a type 9 five speed manual gearbox. Hood and sidescreens are good and may not have had a great deal of use. There is a tonneau cover and soft indoor car cover plus various spares.

The  substantial file contains a workshop manual, an invoice for engine work in 2009 and a large number of others for servicing and spares. A V5C registration certificate is also present.

A delightful car which has proved enjoyable to own and drive, now ready for a new home.

ADDENDUM

Also included in the file is an MG Owner’s Club badge and a BMIHT certificate, which states that the TF was supplied new to North America.
