Succeeding the MGA, the B range of models were innovative for their era. The lightweight monocoque construction produced a vehicle that was economical for MG to produce, but equally offered performance and style to sports car enthusiasts. The Roadster was the first of the range, manufactured from 1962 until the closure of the Abingdon factory in 1980. With the invaluable support from the excellent MG car club, these sports cars are enjoyable to use and economical to run and maintain.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, this example was manufactured for export in November 1968 and shipped to Hong Kong in February 1969. We understand that the MG was resprayed in the late 1970s and sold to the second owner in 1981. Sold and re-purchased by him five years later, the vehicle remained in his ownership for a further twenty nine years. During this time, the motor car was the subject of considerable investment, which we are told included an engine rebuild, the fitting of a four speed synchromesh overdrive gearbox and replacement clutch, and the treatment of the underside with Waxoyl.
The motor car was repatriated in 2002 by its then current custodian. Ownership passed to the vendor earlier this year; regrettably, the only reason that PFJ 24G is now offered for sale again is a reoccurring back injury which has somewhat curtailed any pleasure gained from driving the smart sports car. We are informed that a stainless steel exhaust system is fitted, and apart from a slight crack in the top right of the windscreen, the MG is described as being in good order.
An extensive history file is supplied, which includes documented diary records and invoices for over £25000 dating to the mid-1980s, together with the V5C registration certificate.
