Introduced by the Abingdon Works in 1962, the MG B took over from its fore runner, the MGA, as the entirely new unit construction sports two seater with 95bhp, 3 bearing, 1798cc engine, driving through a four speed gearbox, eventually with optional overdrive. Through the years the car evolved with many detailed changes, including a five bearing engine, but the basic format of an honest sporting conveyance was always retained.
This B GT, with a manual overdrive gearbox, was purchased by its current custodian three years ago as a project. The vendor has clearly put in an epic amount of effort into the restoration as the finished sports car is lovely. The body, now described as excellent with a very good panel fit, has been repainted to a high standard in (Aston Martin California Sage) green, which really does compliment the MG. The stylish ivory upholstery with a dark green piping is new and in immaculate condition. The Kensington Forest Green carpets are virtually new, the headlining is original but very good, and all instrumentation is in working order (although we understand that the rear screen is not heated). There is a new Webasto style sunroof as well. Many new parts were used in the restoration, invoices for those are included in the history file. Mechanically, there are no known faults; the MG underwent an MOT in August and it passed with no advisories. The vendor has overhauled the engine and rear axle, fitted a new clutch assembly, and the steering and braking systems are all described as being good. The B is equipped with electronic ignition, a new: radiator, exhaust system, wiring loom and battery (which was fitted in 2021), and an overhauled and tuned carburettor (which was carried out in March of this year).
The history file contains the V5C registration certificate, photographs of the restoration, invoices for parts and work completed during the current ownership, an MG B workshop manual, and MOT test certificates dating from 1990, including the current (with no advisories).
