1991 Lotus Elan SE Turbo

The new Lotus for 1989 inherited its iconic ‘Elan’ name from the famous and successful model of the Sixties. Inspired by the original Elan, the new sports car was designed by Peter Stevens and had a fibreglass body, a reliable 1588cc engine and a gearbox provided by Isuzu. Parent company General Motors invested heavily in the developmental process, keen to produce a successful British convertible sports car that appealed to the American public too.

This very clean and tidy 1991 example has been in the current ownership for some six years and, we understand, maintained to a high standard by its Lotus enthusiast custodian. The bodywork is described as good and the interior is original, with a little wear, as one would expect. All instrumentation is understood to be in working order. The relatively low mileage of 73000 is believed to be correct. With advancing years and difficulty in entering and exiting the sports car, the vendor has reluctantly decided that he must part with his beloved Elan.

The large history supports the high level of maintenance in recent years with a vast quantity of invoices, MOT test certificates dating back to 1996, two photocopy workshop manuals, the original handbook, an HPI certificate and the V5C registration certificate.
