Lotus have been building sports and racing cars since Colin Chapman produced his first Austin Seven based special in 1949. Some wonderful cars have left the factory, firstly at Hornsey but the better known ones at Cheshunt and since 1966, from Hethel. The original Lotus Elan followed hot on the heels of the exciting if temperamental Climax engined Elite and was amongst the prettiest of the post war sports cars.
Part restored and from a deceased estate, we understand that in 2017, this Lotus was purchased from an internet website for £4300. Approximately £7000 was then spent on replacement parts and specialist repairs, the handwritten schedule for which is included in the file. We understand that the engine unit has been overhauled and the suspension has been dismantled and rebuilt - which will require inspection and setting up (please note that the suspension has been re-installed for transportation only). A CV joint conversion has been carried out and new drive shafts fitted; new brake calipers are supplied with the motor car.
Drawings and data, a considerable quantity of invoices and the aforesaid extensive schedule of work are included in the history file of this worthwhile project.
The V5C registration certificate has been applied for.
