1982 Land Rover Series III LWB Pick-Up and Trailer

Inspired by the American Willys Jeep, the Rover Company introduced the Land Rover Series 1 80 inch in 1948. It was adaptable, durable and soon became a popular utility vehicle both in the UK and overseas. The Series III arrived in 1971 and shared much of its initial make-up with its predecessor, the Series IIA; the inherited 2 ¼ litre engine offered the driver improved performance and it was the first model to offer an all-synchromesh gearbox. Production of the Series III ran until 1985 and during those fourteen years, the model developed vastly to become a more sophisticated vehicle, heralding the way for the modern Defender.  Land Rovers firmly remain not just a ‘cult’ classic – they were sought after by many who find the multi-purpose vehicles equally suited to everyday use as they are to special occasions and historic rallies.

Another barn find for DVCA’s autumn auction, this Series III Land Rover has been in the current family ownership for thirteen years. It should provide an excellent basis for restoration up to concours standard; equally, it would be well-suited to continue as a practical ‘work horse’. It is worth noting that the current taxation class is for ‘limited use’; in other words, the Land Rover is for agricultural use only – however, a new custodian may wish to change this to PLG (please visit the DVLA website for clarification). The vehicle seems generally sound and solid, the front seats are serviceable and the petrol engine starts and runs sweetly. Over private land, YRU 456Y drives reasonably.

The worthwhile project is supplied with its V5C registration certificate and document V112, together.

A useful trailer (the body of which measues 10' x 5') is also included in the sale. The vendor informs us that it is in servicable condition, but is unsure whether or not it is road-worthy. The buyer is to collect by prior arrangement.
