1972 Jensen Interceptor III Auto

From the Kelvin Way Factory in West Bromwich came a hand built super car with a steel body designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Italy, powered by a mighty 6276cc V8 from Chrysler which was coupled to a respected TorqueFlite A-727 automatic gearbox, together producing a Grand Touring motor car with accommodation for four. The Interceptor was produced between 1966 and 1976, with variants and modifications along the way.

Bristolian timber merchant Wickham and Morris Ltd was the first owner of this 1972 Interceptor. In 1978, it was purchased by its second and current custodian, who is now a retired doctor. We are informed that up until the closure of the Jensen factory, CDF 488K was regularly serviced at the West Bromwich facility, but as is often the case, the documentation detailing this period of work is currently misplaced, due to several house moves. Maintenance in recent years has been mainly carried out by the garages at Haynes Motor Museum Ltd and these invoices are supplied with the motor car, together with MOT test certificates dating back to June 1977 at a mileage of 25600, confirming not only that the Jensen has been regularly serviced, but also that the current odometer reading of 58000 miles is understood to be correct.

Resprayed in 1980, the vendor fairly describes the Interceptor as a ‘running restoration’, although we understand that the substantial chassis is solid, and the mechanics are in good order; however, we are told the heater has been bypassed. The exhaust is stainless steel and the Jensen sits on its original alloy road wheels which remain in good order.  Cosmetically, the bumpers would benefit from re-chroming and the bodywork, although ‘straight’, will require restoration repairs to both quarter panels. The original dark blue leather upholstery has survived well and would respond to a treatment of hide food. The headlining and carpets are original and described as good.

With little recent use, the vendor has decided that it is time for a change, consequently offering his covetable super car for sale for the first time in thirty nine years.

Supplied with the aforesaid MOT test certificates and invoices are several other bills, the V5C registration certificate (and replacement) and the original handbook.
