The first Ford Zephyr appeared at the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show alongside the Consul. Both exhibited a new departure in styling not unlike the post-war offerings in America. The Mk IIs developed the theme in the guise of the popular ‘Three Graces’, the Consul, Zephyr and their upmarket cousin the Zodiac. On to the Mk III models, which appeared in 1962 which retained an American style in a stronger body, particularly in Zodiac form with rear fins, plenty of chrome and spacious cabins with bench seats and column gear change to allow for up to six occupants to travel in style. A cavernous boot took care of a mountain of luggage. These were the Rock and Roll years and the large Fords with their Vauxhall counterparts were very popular with the younger generation. Although not widely exported to America, assembly plants for Ford were set up in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia to deal with overseas demand. The powerful 2553cc six cylinder engines produced some 109bhp and servo assisted brakes with discs on the front provided good stopping accordingly.
This Zodiac has been in the care of a very busy A&E doctor, therefore at the time of writing, we cannot include anything of the history of the motor car. We see that its last MOT was in 2017 and there is a twin stainless steel exhaust system which looks to be new. An alternator conversion has been carried out and a replacement radiator fitted. We are informed that the engine has recently been overhauled. The bodywork is generally very good and has likely had a restoration in recent times. The flitch panels are in excellent condition and there is no evidence of rust. The Zodiac has been retrimmed and the upholstery has been replaced to a high standard.
ADDENDUM: The vendor has found documentation for the Zodiac but there is no V5C registration certificate.
