The Bentley Turbo R was designed to be a luxurious high performance saloon, gaining much praise and respect immediately from its launch in the mid 1980s. The ‘R’ designation stood for ‘roadholding’, and the new model was based on the Mulsanne, using a similar Turbo engine, but the improvements were gained from an upgraded suspension, anti-roll bars and Bosch fuel injection, which enhanced torque, as well as alloy road wheels and wider tyres.
This 1995 example is finished in the stunning colour combination of Peacock Blue Mica, with complimentary Sandstone hide upholstery piped in Royal Blue and matching carpets, trim and over-rugs. M53 VMJ has been in the current family ownership since 2003; Mr Harvey Herbert took the Bentley up to Derbyshire for use in his Peak District residence in 2007, but it was seldom used as its owner lived mainly in Dorset. The Turbo R was put into storage in 2012 and in March 2014, ownership passed to Mr Herbert’s young grandson, who has decided to offer the motor car for sale. The original service book details regular service history carried out by Bentley specialists up until 2012, and unusually, the tool kit is present and complete.
The Turbo R has recently been recommissioned, with a new battery fitted and the underside ‘Waxoyled’. M53 VMJ is difficult to fault: it runs and performs as one would expect and remains in exceptional condition throughout. This Bentley should not be confused with the average well-used example.
In addition to the aforementioned service history, the file also includes the handbook, old road tax discs and the V5C registration certificate.
