Arriving in 1958, the BMC Austin-Healey Sprite was designed as an ‘everyman’ small economical sports car by the Donald Healey Motor Company. However, it was manufactured by MG at Abingdon and the model’s success influenced the Midget. So similar were they that enthusiasts quickly referred to the pair as the ‘Spridget’.
Restored to a very high standard, this economical sports car is registered as an Austin-Healey Sprite; however, we understand that the motor car was rebuilt during 2008 / 2009 using a replacement MG Midget bodyshell, with glass fibre front wing panels and a reconditioned 1493cc engine. Recent improvements include the fitting of new carpets and a new radiator. The steering column has also been overhauled. The Spridget sits on Rostyle type road wheels with standard size tyres, and is supplied with full weather equipment.
The history file contains sundry invoices, MOT test certificates, a record of previous owners, MOT test history and the V5C registration certificate.
