Very popular in the Thirties, the 10/4 appeared in 1932 with a simple ladder chassis and 6 volt electrics. By 1934 the chassis had been strengthened by cross bracing and 12 volt electrics used. Various body styles were available in saloon, tourer, drophead coupe and cabriolet form, plus there was a commercial model.
Owned by the same family for many years, CPD 486 is one of the four door saloons, with optional ‘Sunshine’ roof. The four cylinder 1141cc, side valve engine is coupled to a four speed gearbox and the design is simple in concept and easy to maintain. Clearly in its present state, as found slumbering in a nice dry garage in one of Hampshire’s exclusive villages, it will need copious amounts of TLC before it will once again be seen on the road. However, the end result will be greatly rewarding, as there awaits a thriving Owner’s Club, eager to welcome a new member, with excellent spares and help on hand.
For those who have a hankering to attempt a renovation project, this should be a reasonably straightforward restoration; the fact the engine apparently ‘turns’ will certainly ease the process. There will be tears and loss of blood along the way, but the joy of achieving a satisfactory end result, will surely make it all worthwhile.
A V5C registration certificate accompanies the motor car.
