1936 Austin 7 Nippy Sports

The Austin Motor Company produced their little Seven from the early 1920s until the start of World War II. Most recall the pretty bijou saloons and Chummy Tourers, but to satisfy the young blades of the Thirties, something a mite more dashing was required. Hence was born the Nippy, Speedy, Ulster and others, with sporty two seater bodies and a little more in the way of performance.

CYE 281 is a factory built Nippy, with the aforesaid two seater bodywork, but having such creature comforts as a windscreen, folding hood and side screens. The current owner has enjoyed the vehicle for some thirty years, taking it on long Continental runs and he even had it shipped out to New Zealand for the Millennium Rally in Hamilton. Well known Austin Seven specialist Vince Leek rebuilt the mechanicals, fitting a Phoenix crankshaft to the two bearing 747cc engine, a fast road camshaft and a high pressure oil pump and filter. Exhaust gases are removed by a four branch system and the four speed gearbox has been rebuilt with correct Nippy ratios. The rear axle has also received attention, and semi Girling cable brakes stop the motor car quite effectively for a Seven. Fun and smiles are certainly guaranteed when one drives the spritely Austin; the engine revs freely and steering and general road manners are to a high order.

The vendor has strengthened the body during his ownership, but admits the cosmetics, although perfectly acceptable to most, are perhaps spoiled by some crazing to the paintwork, particularly on the front wings.

The motor car comes with V5C registration certificate, old MOT test certificates up to the time of exemption and various invoices etc... A number of spare parts are also supplied. A grand opportunity to acquire a well proven and very sporty little Austin Seven, ready for instant use.
