The Volvo Amazon was manufactured between 1956 and 1970. It was offered in three model styles: two and four door sedans and a five door wagon. By 1959 it became the first car featuring seat belts as standard equipment. The Amazon was initially manufactured at Volvo’s Lundby plant at Gothenburg, moving to the company’s Torslandaverken factory until the cessation of production.
With just one owner from new, this example must be one of the last produced, as imports into the UK finished in1969. We are informed by the custodian that the Volvo was in daily use until 1980, as a successful family workhorse that occasionally towed a small caravan without any significant dramas. The motor car was finally ‘laid-up’ in 1992 and dry stored in the house garage. It appears to have survived well, with only some evidence of small rust spots at the rear of the front wings; otherwise, the bodywork is in good, sound condition. The interior will require a good clean as one would expect, and the front seats could be improved upon, but this is clearly a rare opportunty to purchase an iconic member of the Volvo family.
The Amazon is supplied with the original owner’s manual, service book and V5 registration document.
