The phenomenally successful Spitfire roared onto the motoring scene in 1962. It was Triumph’s challenger to other sports cars of the era, such as the Austin-Healey Sprite, and was designed by the renowned Italian designer Michelotti, who based the model on the chassis, engine, and running gear of the Herald saloon. The Spitfire has always been widely regarded as an economical starter classic, often favoured over its contemporaries for its light and easy handling and for its reasonably priced and easily obtainable spare parts.
This example was one of the last produced by Triumph. It has been dry stored for the last eighteen months or so, as the owner has been serving abroad with the military. Recent recommissioning work has been carried out (with an invoice included in the file totalling £1168), but further work will be required for a new MOT test (the failure certificate is also in the file). The Spitfire has been upgraded with a stainless steel exhaust and ‘pan’ type air filters (with the original supplied). The attractive sports car could be improved cosmetically; however, when the additional repairs are completed, UCW 392X will be the ideal summer mode of transportation.
The large history file includes invoices, numerous MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate.
