The Roadster was the first of MG’s ‘B’ range, and was produced from 1962 until 1980 when the Abingdon factory closed. The improved usage of space meant that the MGB was able to accommodate more passenger and luggage space than its predecessor. The model performed well for its era, with good handling, brisk acceleration and a lightweight construction, and today, with the excellent back-up from the MG Car Club, these sports cars are a pleasure to own and drive.
This late example could be classed as the ideal starter classic sports car, or even as an MG B for everyday use; either way, this Roadster is sure to please. The motor car is described as good in most departments; the bodywork is clean and tidy (and without any rust ‘horrors’), the hood is serviceable and the smart alloy road wheels are fitted with five recent new Yokohama tyres. Other recent attention to the ‘B’ includes the fitting of a new petrol tank, starter motor and a Kenlowe fan. It is also equipped with a wood rimmed steering wheel, H4 headlamps and electronic ignition. The petrol gauge does not operate. We are informed that the brakes and suspension have been upgraded to V8 specification, and that the gearbox is fitted with overdrive.
Supplied with the MG is a factory workshop manual and parts catalogue, and the V5C registration certificate.
