Ford of Britain built the Cortina from 1962 until 1982; the 1600E went into production from 1968 for only two years. The labelling denotes ‘Executive’, but with the addition of the late 88bhp engine and the Lotus lower suspension, the model was far removed from the Sunday afternoon amble down country lanes kind of motoring.
This example is finished in the striking colour combination of gold with a brown Everflex roof and a complimentary tan interior. It sits well on standard equipment Rostyle wheels fitted with new tyres, and the 1600 engine runs sweetly. The vendor tells us that the Ford drives as ‘good as it looks’, and that it performs well. It is described as being very good in most departments and has been the subject of a recent full respray. The interior has been treated to a new headlining (the sun visors are stored in the boot); the original carpets, trim, wood fascias and door cappings are in very good condition for their age. The left-hand front seat does require a small repair to the covering. Recent new parts fitted include an exhaust system; the brakes have also been overhauled.
The history file includes numerous invoices and the V5C registration certificate. The road tax classification for this motor car is 'historic'. With interest growing in these classic Fords, this Cortina appears to be an excellent opportunity.
