1986 Citroen CX25 GTi

The motoring world would be a less exciting place if it were not for Andre Citroen and his company, whom from 1919 produced vehicles which were certainly different to the competition. The Traction Avant front wheel drive cars of the post war period gave way to the gorgeous DS and ID Goddesses and there were a number of smaller quirky cars like the 2CV, Ami etc. At the very climax was the SM with Maserati power and great looks.

The CX25 in various guises was perhaps the last of the true Citroens, and one with an hydraulic suspension system, designed with the notorious Belgian pave roads in mind. A good example is rare find today; allow yourself to sit in the spaceship like driver’s seat and be wafted away to a place where potholes become insignificant. There are specialists aplenty who can help the band of enthusiasts who are currently enjoying the retro Citroen experience.

Understood to have had five former keepers and originally supplied in Exeter, this CX25 has been in the current Devonian custodianship since 2009. Since then, a programme of near constant and meticulous maintenance has been instructed by the vendor; when looking through the file, your writer has totted up a total of over £13000 spent on the Citroen since 2016, with work carried out on the mechanics and body, and thorough yearly servicing. Most recently, a battery was fitted in December 2022 and earlier last year, there was some localized re-wiring, a new water pump and a new tyre fitted. A reconditioned gearbox was installed in 2017. Currently, the bodywork condition is difficult to fault; mechanically, we understand it to reliable, with no known defects, and with an impeccable service history.

An immaculate history is offered with the Citroen, which includes the original Dunns Motors (Exeter) Ltd sales invoice from 1987, another sales invoice from 1991, the original owner’s manual, Citroen UK road map and radio instructions in their original wallet, together with a guarantee card from Dunns of Exeter, the original anti-corrosion guarantee, invoices dating from the early nineties, MOT test certificates from 1990, service stamps from 1986 to 1990 (at 72000 miles), and the V5C registration certificate.
