From 1948 until 1971, BSA produced the phenomenally successful, lightweight Bantam. The various models in the range were initially powered by a 125cc, single cylinder two stroke engine driven through a three speed gearbox, and progressed to 175cc and four speeds. It was in fact based on a German design, taken after the Second World War as reparations, and similar models were produced in four other countries, including the USA by Harley Davidson. Total production figures vary, ranging from 250,000 units to 500,000; although not uncommon now, the Bantam certainly offers its rider economical, classic motorcycling.
