This unique Riley is the sole survivor of just two ever produced with coachwork by Massey, and assembled in the village garage at Netherhampton near Salisbury. The new chassis was supplied by the factory in October 1947 to a Lt. Colonel S E Scammel of East Knoyle. Apparently the Colonel owned large estates in Wiltshire and in Scotland and the Riley, once completed, was used as family and dog transportation back and forth between the two. We understand that light refurbishment and an engine overhaul was carried out in the 1970s and again in the 1990s before the family sold the Riley in c.2017.
The unusual motor car starts and runs like the proverbial sewing machine, and is a frequent attraction at classic car shows and trips to Goodwood (a round trip of 230 miles which it manages with ease). Overall, it is in good, tidy, usable order, well maintained by the current owner and certainly a useful and interesting classic.
The driver’s seat would benefit from a repair, but new carpets have recently been fitted.
Supplied with the motor car is a history file containing invoices, the original RF60 document, two V5C registration certificates and others.
