Eat your heart out White Van Man, particularly if you are feeling the pinch in the current economic sadness, here is something which will decimate your outgoings and maybe raise a smile from your fellow road user, rather than the customary scowl. The stylish Vespa scooter has long been a favourite of the young of the nineteen- sixties and seventies, for nipping in and out of city traffic both at home or abroad. The 150cc air cooled engine, with that special sound, has proved to be a very able and tireless workhorse, carrying extraordinary loads in normally inaccessible places.
What a smart and fun combination we have here, a sky blue Vespa from 1970 fitted with a rare commercial sidecar, guaranteed to give miles of smiles and perfect, dare we suggest, for a handy man or even the local Avon lady! It was supplied new by Douglas (Sales and Service) Ltd of Kingswood, Bristol, to a Mrs Lily May Watts of Evercreech, and it appears to have remained in her ownership for a long time. Condition wise now, the Vespa is extremely original and apparently the engine turns over, although a new battery is needed. The commercial sidecar is also in good original condition without any nasty glass fibre cracks, and requires perhaps just a good polish.
Officially, it is a one-owner vehicle, but the current custodian in fact won the Vespa in a card game. He has decided that he has one too many toys in his shed, so it has travelled from south to north Dorset in order to find a new home.
The history file contains a lovely advert for the commercial sidecar, Vespa sales leaflets, two sales brochures, an accessories brochure, an MOT test certificate from 1985, invoices, a Shell maintenance log book, a lubrication chart, a Vespa guarantee and log book and a V5 registration document.
