c.1950 Velo Solex Motorised Bicycle
Make: Velo
Model: Solex Motorised Bicycle
Year: c.1950
Sold For: £290
Lot No: 202
Offered from 1948 as a cheap form of transport by the Solex factory in Courbevoie, this charming little motorized bicycle is thought to be still in production in France. China and Hungary had taken over in 1988 but it has since reverted to its roots. It was well marketed and millions have been sold.
The basic concept is a 49cc air cooled engine fitted forward of the handlebars with a lever allowing the unit to be lowered on to the front wheel where a pair of rollers transmits power to the wheel. The machine is started by pedalling briskly then lowering the engine on to the wheel and opening the throttle.
This endearing example, believed to date from around 1950, has been in the current ownership for several decades. Condition wise, we understand it to be very original, but it will require recommissioning before use.
