Certainly not a regular sight on the UK’s roads, the Vauxhall Velox models were popular for their ability to provide effortless long distance motoring. Powered by the 2.6 litre six cylinder engine and styles along the lines of the FB Victor, this rare example has been in the current ownership for an amazing forty five years. The vendor was a garage owner when he purchased the Velox for £25 in 1973 and used the motor car as a runabout for the business, no doubt clocking up many amusing anecdotes, including the time when a petrol tanker loaded with 2000 gallons of fuel broke down and the Velox came to the rescue, towing the sizable tanker in! Later, the Vauxhall had a period of rest when it was parked at the Benbridge Aerodrome and used only as transportation around the Isle of Wight when the family visited the island.
In 1999, a programme of restoration was implemented after a decade spent in the open air at Benbridge. The engine, gearbox and rear axle were reconditioned and the bodywork restored and resprayed to the original colour of Forest Green. The interior had held up well and required only a valeting. Since its restoration, the Velox has resided in a dry motor house and emerged only for special occasions, although never in the rain! Just 15000 miles have been covered since the work was carried out and interestingly, BGN 992B took part in the 1903-2003 Vauxhall Centenary 1000 Mile Trial.
The large history supplied includes the original sales brochure and handbook, old road tax discs, the V5C registration certificate, numerous MOT test certificates, two manuals and a quantity of invoices.
