This 1200/4 was motorcycle number 148 in the first batch of machines to be produced at Triumph's then new facility at Hinkley in Leicestershire. It is also one of thirty or so 1200/4s to sport the striking blue livery and as there was a total of just 300 units of the 1200/4 produced in 1991, this motorcycle is a rare early survivor and in original condition. The current custodian has lavished a great deal of time and money on recommissioning the machine after a period of storage and work has included an engine oil and filter change, the fitting of new spark plugs, fuel tap, air filter and battery. The carburettors have been removed and cleaned. Most recently, the rear brake caliper has been serviced with new pads fitted, and the machine sits on new Dunlop Roadsmart IVs. The near-side silencer has had a small repair and a fender extender is fitted to the front guard.
J538 LJU is now in lovely order and the vendor tells us that it is a pleasure to ride, ready then for the open road this summer. The Triumph is supplied with a number of publications including two Haynes manuals, 120 Years of the Triumph (containing a road test of the model), and a copy of a recent magazine featuring John Mockett (the designer of the early Hinkley Triumphs), together with a history file containing a copy of the first brochure produced for Hinkley Triumph in 1990, a range brochure for the NEC Motorcycle Show in 1991 and a range price list dated 1992, together with an almost complete run of MOT test certificates from 1994, the original owner's handbook, invoices and the V5C registration certificate.
