1978 Triumph Stag Mk II

Purchased as a restoration project by the vendor in 2015, this Stag has undergone a full, professional body restoration. Work included the replacement of several panels (all four wheel arch section panels, both door skins and both sill panels) and the inspection and repair, as required, of the underside. A complete respray of the bodyshell was then carried out, including Stoneguard treatment underneath the motor car, and was completed in 2017. The interior is in black vinyl; the left had front seat has been stripped and re-padded, and new carpets fitted. The hood frame was restored and a new mohair hood fitted. The hardtop is included in the sale as well, but will require respraying. The Stag sits on its original alloy road wheels, and is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system.

The brakes have been overhauled with new discs, pads, rear drums and shoes, and a new brake servo. New Spax shock absorbers are fitted to the front and rear. The original automatic transmission has been replaced with a manual gearbox with overdrive, but the automatic gearbox is supplied with the motor car. The engine was the subject of a major rebuild also: the crankshaft was reground and was fitted with new shell bearings, new valve guides (unleaded) were fitted, as well as new pistons and rings, a new oil pump, timing chains and tensioners. The cylinder heads have been re-welded.

The mileage of 54514 is understood to be correct due to the Triumph’s period of barn storage prior to its current ownership. It has been restored at great cost to the vendor and is therefore a fabulous opportunity for the Stag enthusiast. The history file contains invoices, the handbook, MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate.
