Arriving in 1967, the P5B was the final incarnation of the P5 series, which first appeared in 1958. It was powered by a gutsy 3 ½ litre V8 engine originating from Buick, hence the ‘B’ designation. Exterior developments for the model included striking integral fog lamps and chrome Rostyle wheels, and the interior boasted all the refinements that one expected from a Rover. The P5, and in particular the P5B, was favoured by civil servants, Prime Ministers and even the Queen, and was a huge success for Rover until production ceased in 1973.
With a mileage of just 56800 miles that is believed to be correct, this very original V8 Rover P5B Saloon is finished in Admiralty Blue with buckskin upholstery. The motor car appears to be in very original condition and has had few owners; the current is a motor engineer who has clearly maintained his Rover well. We are informed that the chassis and underside have never been welded and the bodywork seems original, with only minor imperfections. The interior, upholstery and headlining are very good for their age; the carpets are showing some signs of wear, as one would expect. Recent attention to the P5B has included an engine overhaul with the fitting of new camshafts, lifters and push rods, together with an uprated oil pump, timing chain and gears. The radiator has been reconditioned, the gearbox flushed, new brake pads fitted and the rear axle serviced. The Rover sits on new Radial tyres. Original equipment still present includes the radio, a full tool kit, front Irvin seat belts and a heater fitted underneath the rear seat.
The history file contains the V5C registration certificate, the original instruction manual, a maintenance manual, Radiomobile instructions and others.
