The ‘75’ was classed as an executive car and manufactured initially by the Rover Group at Cowley, Oxfordshire for the first year, then following acquisition of Rover by BMW, production was moved to Longbridge. The model began as part of a group of three Richard Woolley projects codenamed Flagship, Eric and 75, only the latter being put into production. Following the takeover by BMW in 1994, a new model designated R40 was created concentrating on the classic look, which proved popular with both Rover and MG customers, and the motoring press. Both petrol and diesel models were offered in saloon and estate (touring) guise.
The current enthusiast custodian, a retired motor engineer, purchased this superbly preserved, low genuine mileage Rover 75 in 2007 and has clearly cherished his modern classic. Over all, the condition is very tidy, with no evidence of rust or damage, although there are various light surface scratches to a couple of areas of the paintwork. The interior is smart and in good order, and mechanically, we understand that all is well.
At 46000 miles, the cylinder head was skimmed and a new head gasket was fitted, and we are informed that the horn is operated by a press switch (a quick fix for an MOT test).
The history file contains the V5C registration certificate, correspondence, invoices dating from 2007, the purchase invoice from the same year, and MOT test certificates dating from 2006.
