The Riley Elf, along with the Wolseley Hornet was introduced in 1961 as a more luxurious version of the Mini. Each incorporated a different front end treatment with marque specific radiator grill, and a more distinctive boot than the original Mini, plus larger chrome hubcaps, additional chrome accents, bumper overriders and wood veneer dashboards. The Riley was the more expensive of the two. For the Mk II introduced in 1993, the engine was upgraded to a single carburettor version of the cooper 998cc unit.
The 1965 motor car on offer here has been in one ownership from 1967 until this year, and has been driven down from Leicester to the sale. The bodywork is described by the vendor as good, having been the subject of some restoration and full respray by a classic vehicle restorer in around 1995. The brightwork is generally good and the original red leather seats are present, which are in fair condition for their age. The headlining is the original, as is the full width walnut veneer dash panel, which was a distinguishing feature of this model. The carpets have been replaced at some time. Unfortunately, the heater is not present. Mechanically, the vehicle is understood to be in good condition, with the coil and dynamo having been replaced recently.
The vehicle is supplied with a V5C registration certificate, plus a history file containing the original sales invoice from Cox's Motors Leicester Ltd, together with old road tax discs, Riley Motor Club information and numerous invoices for maintenance work performed.
