The 106 was introduced in 1991 as an entry level car, just slotting in beneath the redoubtable 205 and created on the Citroen AX platform to compete against Renault’s popular Clio. It featured all independent suspension with MacPherson struts at the front and compact transverse torsion bars at the rear. Comfort, road holding and cheap running costs were its strengths, and many were modified for motor sport because of these reasons, but a number were also built by the factory with professional rallying in mind; for any manufacturer who wishes to participate in motor sport, a minimum of five hundred modified models must be produced for ‘homologation’ – the unrequired surplus are then sold to the general public.
So this genuine Peugeot 106 Rallye example is a very rare motor car indeed, and comes complete with the homologation chassis plate and PSA, as well as the GTi race tuned 1.6 16v, four cylinder engine and five speed close ratio gearbox. It was built as a competition car and we are informed that it is eligible for certain saloon car events and championships – it could certainly be used by an enthusiast for track days. The specification includes an OMP full roll cage (with certificate), Corbeau FIA racing seats, a Sparco harness brace bar, a big bore exhaust, an oil cooler and an uprated suspension and brake system.
A history file is supplied with the handbook, service book, invoices, and the V5C registration certificate.
