The Peugeot 205 was produced from 1983 to 1999 and was awarded ‘car of the decade’ in 1990 by Car Magazine.
Although noted for their larger saloons, Peugeot had entered the Supermini class with their 104 in 1973. The 205 was developed to compete with the likes of Fiat, Ford, Vauxhall/Opel, Austin and VW and in GTi form it became a serious rival for the latter’s GTi. The design was in -house by Gerard Welter, although Pininfarina were responsible for the pretty cabriolet.
We are assured by its vendor that this ex Channel Islands five door Saloon has a genuine low mileage of 47204 and is a mechanically very sound motor car with a rust free underside. In the last year or so and at a mileage of 46747, the Peugeot had an engine service and a transmission oil change, plus the CV joint covers were replaced on the drive shafts, as were the anti-roll bar bushes and the brake hoses. A new timing belt, water pump and radiator were also fitted, as well as four new tyres and after the work, a fresh MOT test certificate was obtained. The 205 isn’t a concours queen and has a few cosmetic imperfections such as worn front seats, but as the cost of the mechanical work mentioned above reached £850, this little vehicle is great value for money, certainly a reliable run-about that you could park up and not worry about!
The original handbook and service book are supplied, plus sundry paperwork, the current MOT test certificate and the V5C registration certificate.
