From 1956 until 1971, the Morris Minor was produced in large numbers both in saloon, convertible, estate car and commercially as a van or pickup truck. With simple mechanics comprising a four cylinder engine and a four speed gearbox, maintenance was easy and petrol consumption at around 40 mpg meant this was indeed a cheap car to run. With an accessible spares back up and the superb Morris Minor Owners’ Club for support, the Minor is extremely popular today, offering practical classic transportation on the modern road.
This Minor Pick-Up Truck was manufactured in 1959 and assembled in New Zealand in 1960 after leaving the UK as a ‘Completely Knocked Down Kit’ (CKD); this is certified by the Minor LCV Register historian Russ Harvey.
Purchased by the vendor as a restoration project, we understand that the Morris was completely dismantled and restored using a new right-hand front chassis member and welding and repairing the right hand rear chassis member; other panels were replaced as well. The rest of the underside was cleaned, checked and rustproofed.
Mechanically, the truck has been upgraded with a good 1098cc engine and gearbox, and the brakes have been rebuilt with new components. The body was restored using the original panels and although the panelwork is not concours, they certainly have not been loaded with filler!
The current custodian has reluctantly decided to part with the Pick-Up due to commitments and time constraints; because of its early life in the Southern Hemisphere, the new owner will need to apply for a V5C registration certificate (a NOVA certificate is supplied), but the Minor will be a great platform for advertising a small business, or as a perfect companion at classic car events and rallies.
