1972 Mercedes-Benz 220 Auto Saloon

One cannot help admiring the build quality of these early Mercedes and here we offer one that has had such a sheltered and well cared for existence, one could be forgiven for thinking it was not long out of the showroom; indeed the recorded mileage of 49,152 simply confirms that the motor car has had remarkably little use.

The 220 was purchased new by the late Major Randolph Jones, whilst serving with HM Forces in Germany, and has been driven only by him and carefully maintained throughout their time together. Proudly bearing the major’s personal number plate, which will remain with the motor car, the Mercedes-Benz was driven to Buckingham Palace, where the major received an MBE from Her Majesty The Queen. Sadly subsequent illness meant the motor car could no longer be driven, and it has remained in the family garage for some four years. The Mercedes-Benz has now been recommissioned and a new MOT test certificate acquired.

The 2197cc petrol engine drives through an automatic gearbox, and the vehicle benefits from air conditioning. The general condition of the bodywork, paint and underside is quite remarkable and even the engine bay is tidy. The interior trim is as one would expect for such a quality vehicle which has had so little use. A glance in the immaculate and cavernous boot will see there are a choice of covers for the car, a portable Hoover and a valeting kit. There is a spare wheel with a seemingly unused Continental tyre, whilst the road wheels are currently shod with Michelins.

RVN is offered with a V5C registration certificate, a handbook and workshop manual, plus various original sale brochures for the motor car and ancillaries, together with a large quantity of invoices and old MOT test certificates etc…
