Many appear to mourn the passing of our true Land Rovers. So much so that a serious market has developed for these faithful old retainers, be they gleaming in the sunshine or buried in the silage clamp. The older the better it seems, so an 88” Series 2 is high on the shopping list it appears and one with this story must be worth a serious ponder.
With standard short wheelbase body plus canvas tilt and powered by the correct two and a quarter litre petrol engine, this already sounds appealing and the story gets better.
The vehicle was acquired by the fifth owner in 2011 and he worked upon it for the next ten years. All MOT test certificates are available from 1969 onwards with receipts for work carried out.
In 2012, the bulkhead was refurbished and wheels stove enamelled. This was fitted to a new galvanised chassis with bolt up cross members in 2013. The drive train was re assembled with new UJs shock absorbers and swivel kits etc. At the same time a new wiring loom was fitted.
2014 saw the engine work carried out involving new main bearings and shells, an alternator and a brake servo conversion and the gearbox was given a new clutch. A brake master cylinder was added before a complete body refurbishment was carried out 2016-21, which included a new Exmoor Trim full tilt and seats. The Land Rover was given a fresh MOT test check-over and the work declared complete.
This rejuvenated Landy comes with a V5C registration certificate, a V5 document, a quantity of MOT test certificates, an original sales brochure and price list, various invoices for the restoration work and a Haynes workshop manual. Some spare parts are also supplied.
A contender for ‘The Best 4X4 By Far’ perhaps?
