Launched at the 1950 Earls Court Motor Show, the Mk I Zephyr was a lengthened version of its sibling, the Consul, and was equipped with a six cylinder 2262cc engine driven through a three speed gearbox. The Mk II Zephyr arrived in 1956 alongside the Zodiac and Consul, and were collectively known as the ‘Three Graces’. The Zephyr engine was enlarged to 2553cc and was capable of achieving 88mph. Hugely popular, the Fifties and early Sixties Fords were flamboyant and stylish, appealing as much to the middle classes as it did to the young and trendy.
The condition of this fine example would be difficult to replicate. Described as being in very good, original condition in most departments, the Zephyr has a mileage of some 55500 miles and has clearly been well looked after throughout its life. We are informed that the motor car has been fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system; a brake overhaul has recently been carried out and a new brake servo fitted. The bodywork is in good order (the lower half apparently may have been resprayed in the past) and the interior and upholstery has survived well and is, we understand, largely original.
PFO 524 is supplied with a number of old road tax discs, invoices, sixteen MOT test certificates and the V5C registration certificate.
