1989 Ford Escort XR3i Mk IV Cabriolet

Roaring onto the UK car market in 1968, the Escort was a departure for Ford; the modern styling and mechanics boosted its appeal to the British public, so much so that it became the best selling UK car in the Sixties. No doubt its adaptability aided its success – the model range was equally suited to young bright things as it was to families wanting reliability and value for money from their motor car.  Since its arrival, the Escort has become rather a cult classic and has gained a huge following, not least with those who prefer their transportation to be something of a statement. The hot hatch Escort Mk IV XR3i of 1986 had a Bosch fuel-injected engine of 1597cc, better aerodynamics than its predecessors and could apparently produce a top speed of 118mph.

This four owner 1989 XR3i Cabriolet was originally supplied in Blackpool, but found itself in London a year later and there it remained, owned by a husband and wife for seventeen years, who clearly cherished their Escort as its condition now is difficult to fault. The current custodian purchased the motor car in 2007 and has continued to maintain it to a high standard and with minimal use. The mileage of 51123 can be verified by the original service records and subsequent MOT test certificates included in the file. Overall, the Escort is described as being in good condition in all departments. The body is sound and the original paintwork good, as are the original alloy wheels. The condition of the hood is very good, the interior is smart (the cloth seats are very tidy considering their age) and all instrumentation is understood to be working. A fun and well preserved car then, perfect for an Escort enthusiast. 

The history file contains the original service book (stamped up to 2005), MOT test certificates also dating from 2005, road tax discs, invoices, a Sony radio/cassette player manual, the old V5 document, photocopy V5Cs and the current V5C registration certificate.
