1974 Ford Escort Mk I Two Door Saloon

Roaring onto the UK car market in 1968, the Escort was a departure for Ford; the modern styling and mechanics boosted its appeal to the British public, so much so that it became the best-selling UK car in the Sixties. No doubt its adaptability aided its success – the model range was equally suited to young bright things as it was to families wanting reliability and value for money from their motor car.  Since its arrival, the Escort has become rather a cult classic and has gained a huge following, not least with those who prefer their transportation to be something of a statement.

The current custodian purchased this superb Mk I Escort from the estate of the first owner of forty two years in 2016 and commenced with a nut and bolt restoration to return the motor car to the standard it left the factory. The condition of the bodywork is described by the vendor as being excellent and the original upholstery is, we are told, of a similar high standard. The Escort sits on a set of new tyres and the mechanical aspect of the motor car is good; the restoration included an engine rebuild and an overhaul of the braking system, with replacement parts fitted where necessary. Unfortunately the estate of the first owner mislaid the original documentation for the motor car; the file now contains the V5C registration certificate.
